We started taking pics by our I phone camera and then we moved to DSLR. I had my  two models , Maira and Ayma  because later own one of them got Covid.  These are all the images and rejected shots from the photoshoot that I did for my school magazine front cover. Me capturing pictures Later own my model Maira had covid so she was in quarantine and I couldn't take her photos .So I approached to another friend of mine Ayma  .

Mood Board

This was my kind of mood board and visual presentation

Planning: Mise-en-Scenes

Image
The costumes for my school magazine are going to be school uniform and casual clothes too. I'm going to challenge the convention of students in media being shown wearing uniforms. I would be relying on other props to convey the same message and produce a similar convention. I have made my main model wear the pinkish color uniform.  The props would be school bags , books and a band . I can have my models put their hair in very short haircut or open and messy hair.

Planning Codes and conventions

Deciding the codes and conventions is based on what kind of audience the magazine is targeting. For a school magazine, this audience could be parents, teachers and students of primary school, mid-school and colleges.

Planning Sketches

Image
Starting  up my work on the preliminary task of creating my own school magazine, the first step was to make illustrations of how I wanted my magazine to look like. For that, I created these sketches.      Rough drafts          After having some ideas and thinking my final sketch.

Planning school magazine logo

Image
I'm now going to decide on the logo for my school magazine. I want my magazine title, "Dreamer" to have a bit formal layout. I started out by going on  https://www.dafont.com/ . The website had a lot of fonts styles. I tried out some to get an idea and make it suit the layout theme I have envisioned for my magazine.

Research: School magazine And Logos

Image
Some magazines improve their logos by using different color  schemes, different fonts and so on. This could sometimes be based on the various market segments they target. Teach, for example, produces various content magazines based on its targeted market segments. For its education-based neutral content, targeted at a wider, less-segmented audience, it uses a simple, broadly written, sans-serif font.

Research: Fonts and Logos

Image
Different magazines go with different fonts and color schemes in terms of their genre. Most school magazines may be a clear giveaway of the genre they are trying to portray just by the  title  alone, so it is important to go with a font that is effective and understood by audiences. For example, TEACH bases its ideology on delivering  pragmatic tools and resources to k-12 grade  educators.  Since it targets teachers, with education as its basic genre, the logo is designed to look classy and casual. It's simple and straightforward to the audience it's for. The sans-serif font and the bright colour although makes it less formal, it also makes it less boring and appropriate for targeting teachers . Campus, on the other hand, aims at young people with its student-oriented content. It features  articles on an array of topics from education, to lifestyle, and local happenings, to stay relevant to its audience. The dark logo, designed to look like it's written on a piece of pape

Research: Subscription cards

Image
The publishing industry calls these things "blow-in" cards, and they've been around for years as a way to attract new subscribers . A loose insert card will sell the features of a   subscription   (but not the main benefits).   Here are some typical features: Is the magazine cheaper than newssta nd prices? Is there a free booklet, report or other free gift? Are copies delivered to your door at no extra charge? Will the subscriber never miss an issue? Has the price has been massaged down to ‘just 42 pence a week’? Can the subscriber pay later? Things to consider : What will your publication DO for the reader? Make a list. Why does he or she need a full year’s subscription? Why won’t a single issue be enough? What benefit will the reader miss out on if he / she doesn’t subscribe? How will it affect his life? What benefit will the reader receive if he / she subscribes now, rather than later?

Research: Main music genre

Why Music? I chose the genre of music because I believe that aside from it being an interest to everyone worldwide, Pakistan does not have any exclusive music magazines. There are a lot of small Pakistani bands that are not recognized and even though they have great potential and amazing music, they tend to disband.  By making a music centered magazine I want to give people , especially the target audience awareness of these bands, upcoming gigs and concerts and so on. The band for my main story will either be a Rock or an Indie Band.  I shall carry out a survey to determine what sub-genre to go with in accordance of what my target audience would prefer.

Research: Camera Shots and Angles

Image
High Angle : This angle looks down on someone, it makes the person or object small and insignificant Low Angle : This angle looks up on something or someone making it look bigger than it really is. Slanted Angle: A slanted angle shows an object or someone from an unnatural point of view. Eye Level: An eye level angle shows the object of the picture looking directly at you, this shows that he or she has the same amount of power as you.  Aerial Shot: A view from above. It shows everything t hat is happening from a birds eye view. It shows the audience everything that is happening at once. Close-up Shot : Close up shots are used to show an object or the features of a person such as their eyes, in great detail. Long Shot: Takes a picture from a distance, it shows a whole setting. Medium Shot : A medium shot is usually from the targets head down to his or her torso. This to show the targets body as well as there face. This type of shot is often used in magazines. Wide Shot : This sh
